SIU Joined ‘Thailand Political Database’ Project

Prof. Dr. Charas Suwanmala, former Dean at Facuty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, announced the ‘Thailand Political Database’ web site (www.tpd.in.th). SIU is one of the founding partners.

28 April 2011 – SIU joined the ‘Thailand Political Database’ project as a founding partner.

Prof. Dr. Charas Suwanmala, former Dean at Facuty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, announced the ‘Thailand Political Database’ web site (www.tpd.in.th). TPD is a centralized site which aggregates political data and information from its partner sites.

The project is funding by Thai Health Promotion Foundation. SIU is one of the founding partners.

SIU has run the Thailand Political Base, a Wikipedia-style open database for Thai politicians for almost three years. The TPD project will use the information from Thailand Political Base as its foundation data.

SIU Meeting with Prof. Emeritus W. Scott Thompson

25 April 2011 – SIU had a chance to meet and talk with Prof. Emeritus W. Scott Thompson, an expert of international relations at Siam University during his Thailand visit.

Prof. Scott was a former member of both Ford and Reagan Administrations. He also was an Adjunct Professor of International Politics at Georgetown University and on the faculty of Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University.

Prof. Scott also gave an interview on ASEAN relations and global politics. The edited transcript (in Thai) will appear shortly on Siam Intelligence website.

SIU Presents at FNF South East Asia Office

17 February 2011 – Friedrich Naumann Foundation Southeast Asia, as SIU’s partner, invited us to a special meeting with Prof. Dr. Jurgen Morlock, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation during his South East Asia visit.

SIU, along with other FNF partners including ChangeFusion, Thoth Media and Rangkid Group, presented the application of internet and new media technology to improve the awareness of democracy and liberalism in Thailand.

SIU selected for E-media startups business plan workshop

Bangkok:April, 9th – 10th 2009; Change Fusion, SEACeM and Freevoice were organized E-media startups business plan workshop for E-media enterprises who were selected form E-media Staetups Competition programme.

Bangkok:April, 9th – 10th 2009; Change Fusion, SEACeM and Freevoice were organized E-media startups business plan workshop for E-media enterprises who were selected form E-media Staetups Competition programme.

The workshop aim to sharpen the business plan for early stage E-media Social Enterprises the output of the workshop will be rated and the winners will receive incubation supports as well as USD 10,000 equity-like loan for seed/startup fund, the workshop was attended by 4 E-media ventures. Two were selected for loan consideration: Siam Intelligent Unit (SIU) from Thailand and Real Picture from Nepal.

After 2 days workshop for develop the business plans, the output came up with Siam Intelligent Unit (SIU) who proposed business model of social & economic research base news portal and Real Picture who proposed business model of produce community base video news and documentary online in Nepal.

Those 2 ventures will be move forward to the incubation process closely with SEACeM and Change Fusion. The progress of the project will be posted on this website as well as 2nd e-media competition announcement in near future.

Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) is non-profit foundation supporting on liberalism, economic freedom, market economy, importance of rule of law, and respect for human rights. Found in 1958 by Theodor Heuss, the first president of the Federal Republic of Germany after the World War ll. The Southeast and East Asian Office established in Singapore in 1992 and then relocated to Thailand in 2001.

FNF is supporting SIU on Thailand Political Base project.
