2 July 2011 – Kan Yuenyong, SIU Executive Director, joined “Komchadluek” TV program in the eve of Thailand’s 2011 General Election. The program was aired on Nation Channel.

The other guest panelist is Dr. Nanthana Nanthawaropas, Dean of Political Communication College, Krirk University. The host is Nation’s Jomquan Laopett.

Reuters asked Kan Yuenyong, SIU Director for his opinion on the military movement:

Kan Yuenyong, an analyst at the Siam Intelligence Unit, said the stakes are high for the military, which faces a possible purge if Yingluck becomes premier and remains influenced by Thaksin, who may seek a military reshuffle in revenge for his ouster.

“A coup is the worst-case scenario but that can’t be ruled out if Thaksin regains power,” he said. “The military has learned from the past and knows Thaksin will want his revenge.”

SIU Quoted by Nomura Securies Report

Capital Nomura Securities (CNS), Thailand’s branch of Nomura Group, quoted SIU’s opinion on Thailand’s election in its daily analysis report.

The report of 16 June 2011 quoted Kan Yuenyong, SIU Director, on his forecast on the election outcome. Kan predicted that while the Pheu Thai Government is likely, it will not last long because of many risk factors: the return of Yellow Shirt, the opposition from Democrat Party’s supporters.

SIU on Thai PBS – Election and Online Database

5 June 2011 – SIU and Political Base web site were covered by “มองมุมใหม่” (Mong Moom Mai) program on Thai PBS. The cover story is “Online Political Database” which includes SIU’s partners e.g. TPD and Thaiswatch project.

SIU created the Political Base project, as ‘Wikipedia for Thai Political Data’ since 2007. It is a public information site on Thailand’s political issues: politicians, political parties and other related issues.

Scorecard on Abhisit and Yingluck

SIU releases a comparison table/scorecard on Thai PM candidates between Yingluck Shinawatra and Abhisit Vejjajiva in both Thai and English version.

SIU releases a comparison table/scorecard on Thai PM candidates between Yingluck Shinawatra and Abhisit Vejjajiva. The goal is to spread the political information to the mass public in easy-to-understand format.

The original Thai version was released on 20 May 2011 at Siam Intelligence web site. It got good reception from Thai internet users, with more than 5,000 views, 150 retweets and 300 Facebook likes.

The English version was released on 30 May 2011 at New Mandala, a popular English-language blog on Southeast Asia politics.

SIU also created the Thailand Political Base, a Wikipedia-like open database on politicians and political issues.
