3 May 2011 – SIU and Telecommunicatons Consumer Protection (TCI) Institute co-organized a public seminar “Cable TV & Satellite TV Regulation in NBTC Era” at The Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission with 120 attendees.

The event was opened by Associate Professor Pana Thongmeearkom, the NTC commissioner (as acting NBTC commissioner) and participated by:

21 April 2011 – Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, in conjunction with Siam Intelligence Unit (SIU) organized an international seminar “Looking Towards ASEAN community 2015: Constraints, Obstacles and Opportunities” at Maha Chulalongkorn Building, Chulalongkorn University.

The event was opened by Professor Dr. Kua Wongboonsin, Vice President, Chulalongkorn University and Dr. Pimrapaat Dusadeeisarayakul, Program Manager, Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

Professor Dr. Surakiat Satienthai, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs gave his keynote speech from his ASEAN experience.

Seminar: Thailand’s Direction

30 March 2011 – SIU and Asia Watch Group, Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University co-hosted the public seminar “Thailand’s Direction” (ประเทศไทยจะไปทางไหนกัน) at Chulalongkorn University.

The event was opened by the chairman of Chulalongkorn University. The panelists are:

SIU organized two invited-only forums on world economics this month.

SIU organized two invited-only forums on world economics this month.

SIU Economics Forum #1 was held on 3rd November 2010. The guest lecturer is Thanee Chaiwat, SIU advisor and lecturer for Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University.
Thanee, who currently is a PhD candidate on Political Economy at the University of Bologna, lectured two of his study subjects: Mafia and Economic Development: Lesson from Italy and Some Interesting Topics in African Development. The video will be published shortly on SIU web site.

SIU Economics Forum #2 came a week after on 10th November 2010, few days after United States Federal Reserve announced its “QE2” plan.

Surasak Dhammo, SIU economist and Benz Sudta, one of SIU economist network, lead the discussion on what QE2 is and how it affect Thailand economy. The lecture video will be published soon as well.

SIU ICT Researcher Isriya Paireepairit joined the panel speakers at Telecommunications Consumer Institute’s 3G Seminar.

28 September 2010 – SIU ICT Researcher Isriya Paireepairit joined the panel speakers at Telecommunications Consumer Institute’s 3G Seminar.

Telecommunications Consumer Institute is National Telecomunication Commission’s branch for consumer rights and protection. The event topic is Thailand’s future after 3G break. Other panelists are Dr. Somkiat Tangkitvanich, Vice President of TDRI and Dr. Pichet Ritthisoonthorn, TOT Engineer.

SIU Join Sessions with Adam Kahane, Scenario Experts

In 2009 and early 2010, SIU has introduced “scenario planning” as one methodology for peace negotiation and reconciliation in Thailand crisis. Our main output is the book Think Tank and the seminar Seminar “Get Over Thailand Conflict”, also Online TV program and several article published.

In 2009 and early 2010, SIU has introduced “scenario planning” as one methodology for peace negotiation and reconciliation in Thailand crisis. Our main output is the book Think Tank and the seminar Seminar “Get Over Thailand Conflict”, also Online TV program and several article published.

This week, Adam Kahane, a scenario expert who successfully brought this methodology into South Africa during 90s, comes to Thailand for observing and studying Thailand’s political situation. SIU was invited by organizer for two of Kahane’s sessions.
The first one was public seminar “Scenario to Shape the Future” on 16 August 2010 at National Defense College.

The second session came a day later. It was a round-table discussion at Thai Journalist Association. The attendees include Paibul Wattanasiritham, former Deputy Prime Minister; Pokin Polakul, former president of the parliament; and Panithan Wattanayakorn, vice-secretary of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and acting government spokeman.
