Political Economy Class for NBTC

SIU staffs were invited for teaching Political Economy classes by The Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC)

SIU staffs, Kan Yuenyong and Chaiyaporn Sianpanit were invited by The Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the regulator on broadcasting/telecommunications in Thailand, to teach NBTC staffs about political economy of media industry in Thailand.

The classes were taught during January-February 2010. There were total 120 NBTC staffs attended.

3 May 2011 – SIU and Telecommunicatons Consumer Protection (TCI) Institute co-organized a public seminar “Cable TV & Satellite TV Regulation in NBTC Era” at The Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission with 120 attendees.

The event was opened by Associate Professor Pana Thongmeearkom, the NTC commissioner (as acting NBTC commissioner) and participated by:

SIU in Bangkok Biz: Spectrum Allocation War

The article is titled “การบ้านสำคัญของ กสทช. : ศึกชิงคลื่นความถี่ระหว่างโทรคมนาคม vs วิทยุโทรทัศน์” (NBTC’s Big Challenge: Spectrum Allocation War Between Telecom and Broadcast), written by Isriya Paireepairit, SIU Chief Researcher.

The topic of this article is about the “spectrum crisis” in the US, which Thailand will soon face the same situation and requires the first NBTC to take a step.

SMS Spam Workshop at NBTC Office

9 March 2011 – SIU in conjunction with Telecommunications Consumer Institute (TCI) organized a telecom workshop on “SMS Spam Protection” at the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Phaholyotin Road.

The attendances in this workshop are all five major mobile operators (AIS, DTAC, TRUE, TOT, CAT), digital content providers (e.g. GMM Grammy, INN News and Mono Group) and digital SMS marketing firms. All of participants including TCI and representatives from NBTC discussed the best solution to counter “SMS Spam” and “Value Added Services” problems the mobile consumers are facing now.

Prawit Leestapornwonsa, TCI Director, gave the opening remark. The workshop was  moderated by Kan Yuentong, SIU Director. SIU also presented the outcome of “SMS Spam Legal Framework from Other Countries” research project.

SIU ICT Researcher Isriya Paireepairit joined the panel speakers at Telecommunications Consumer Institute’s 3G Seminar.

28 September 2010 – SIU ICT Researcher Isriya Paireepairit joined the panel speakers at Telecommunications Consumer Institute’s 3G Seminar.

Telecommunications Consumer Institute is National Telecomunication Commission’s branch for consumer rights and protection. The event topic is Thailand’s future after 3G break. Other panelists are Dr. Somkiat Tangkitvanich, Vice President of TDRI and Dr. Pichet Ritthisoonthorn, TOT Engineer.

Isriya Paireepairit, SIU’s ICT consultant, participated in The Telecommunications Consumer Institute (TCI) seminar on the price structure of mobile tariffs in Thailand.

4 August 2010 – Isriya Paireepairit, SIU’s ICT consultant, participated in The Telecommunications Consumer Institute (TCI) seminar on the price structure of mobile tariffs in Thailand.

The seminar took place at The Office of National Telecommunications Commission. The panelists include Dr. Somkiat Tangkitvanich from TDRI, Dr. Pracha Koonnathamdee from Thammasat University and the Director of TCI.
